Pope

Well, the Pope is dead. He'll be missed, but I can't say that I'm sad. I think that's just about the best possible way to go: fondly remembered, looking back on a good life and on the VIP list to get into heaven. Would that everyone could be so lucky. The next guy is definitely going to take some getting used to.

Ok, enough goodness. You know who I hate? News anchors. First, their coverage of the Pope was akin to the "Bring out your dead" scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail I'm sorry, but I just don't think it's right to start talking about funeral arangements while the person in question is still alive. The death watch music is morbid enough, but you don't have televised discussions about what to do with a dead body when someone is still living in it.

Next, they are just plain stupid. When Soledad O'Brien refered to JPII as "the most political Pope" I almost had to fly to Atlanta to punch her. The church is two thousand years old!! Popes used to have armies, draw colonial boundaries and kill heads of state! JPII may have encouraged a bloodless coup now and again, but by papal standards that's nothing. Julius II? Now there's a political Pope.

Anyway, JPII, we may not always have seen eye to eye, but I'll still be happy when they get around to making you a saint.
