Gender Trouble

This morning the Diane Rehm show had on an author who had just written a book about Caravaggio's "The Taking of Christ"

By sheer coincidence, this painting is housed at the Irish National Gallery, which, in turn, is located within walking distance of Trinity University where I lived when I did my study abroad. I used to go to the gallery fairly frequently and that painting was one that I visited every time.

So, feeling cocky, I wrote a smarty-pants letter in to the show asking about the theological signifigance of Caravaggio's treatment of the subject.

Twenty minutes later, I actually heard my name on the air:

"We have an e-mail from Drew in Washington. She writes . . ."

*sigh*

The author didn't have a clue what I was talking about and had to fall back on some sill answer about how Caravaggio didn't paint icons. That made me feel a little better.

In my next life I'm getting a more masculine name. Like Quentin.

You were had by Rehm? My God man! That makes my life look good.

At least you still have a shot at impressing Kojo Nnamdi, that guy is the real player.

Tootles.

I had an email read on Kojo's show once and it made my month. Rehm, though, that's big time.
