Well, that's one way to deal with unemployment . . .
So, my job ends on Friday. I have a positive looking job prospect, but nothing for sure. I wasn't sure whether to start filling out applications at Starbucks or just slink back to Lee County to see if they needed substitute teachers. Then I realized, there was a simple solution staring me in the face, something so glaringly obvious only a fool would think of it: go to Rome a drink a whole bunch of red wine.
What's not to love about this plan? Rome? Red wine? Nothing! With just a few short mouse clicks, the problem was solved. I'm going to the eternal city and there's nothing you can do to stop me. Unless you are my credit card company, in which case, I have died, so no use trying to collect from me.
I'm gone from the 7th to the 15th. If you send me your address, I'll send you a postcard.
I'm going to go watch The Talented Mr. Ripley now.
PS - If you're bored and unafraid of debt, come with me!
PPS - If you know a good novel about Rome, let me know.

Oooooh, I love Rome. You probably already know this, but you have to:
1. Eat in Trastevere, it's the only place to get cheap delicious food. It's also a great place to find a wine bar and relax with brusceta before dinner (which will be at 8 pm, if you try to go to a restaurant before then, they'll laugh at you).
2. Go to the Catecombs. I went to the Catecombs of Domitilia (with Susanna!), we took a bus, and it was cheep and fun, if slightly creepy.
3. Go the the Colleseum, and here's a tip that I got that worked really well in high tourist season, although it may be unneccesary in winter, if you go to the Palatine hill first (that's after you've walked through the Forum) and buy a combo ticket to the hill and the colleseum there, then you can bypass the huge line at the colleseum.
4. If you go to St. Peter's and the Vatican Museum, go to St. Peter's in morning, have lunch in the cute little neighborhood next to the Vatican, and then go to the the museum in the afternoon, around 2. There's always a line about 4 miles long for the museum in the morning, but it totally dissapears after noon. I have no idea why, but this works.

What? WHAT?!?!
Drew, don't take this the wrong way, but I kind of hate you right now.
Can we talk about the fringe festival before you leave?

Isn't the new book by the author of Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil about Rome? It's Italy anyway.

Also, you could read "Angels and Demons", but then you'd have to shoot yourself.
